The Crew Behind the Number

Maryland Plumbing Co is the plumbing and gas team for Maryland, Fletcher and Wallsend in Newcastle. The work runs from choked sewers and cold showers to new gas points and anything that floods after dark. The suburb itself is largely brick-veneer family houses from an estate rolled out from the 1970s onward. Prices are settled before any pipe is opened, and the team page shows who we are.

Maryland Plumbing Services

Two more services sit outside the grid: gutter guards for leafy roofs and plumbing for local businesses.

An Estate That Is Ageing in Step

Paddocks to streets from the 1970s

The estate replaced farmland in stages, and brick-veneer family houses went up in waves until the 1990s, with Glendore-side subdivisions and a few townhouses after that. At the last census Maryland had 2,725 dwellings, and separate houses made up 90.1 per cent.

Why that matters for the plumbing

A suburb built over a few decades wears out together. The storage tanks, taps and supply fittings put in during the build years are due for renewal along whole streets, so a leaking tank or a weeping mixer becomes a repair-or-replace decision rather than a quick washer.

Clay that moves

The estate sits on reactive clay. After a wet spell it swells, after a dry one it pulls back, and each cycle nudges the buried joints laid in the early stages, which is how an old sewer cracks with nobody touching it.

How Quotes Work

So the figure you say yes to is the figure you pay.

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

What changes the figure from one house to the next:

  • How far in the fault sits A dripping mixer in the kitchen is a short job; a joint cracked under a slab means cutting through concrete first.
  • The pipe material Old clay sewer, copper supply and PVC each take their own fittings and tools.
  • The part going in A thermostat costs a fraction of a whole tank, and the paperwork spells out which part is going in.

When we're not the right call. If a tripping safety switch is the real fault rather than the water heater, that belongs to a licensed electrician, and the person on the phone points you there before any visit is booked.

From Call to Clean-Up

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 1093 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    The repair, then a test

The fix is made with the right tool for that pipe and that block, then water runs through to prove it holds.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Old Gardens, Hoses and the Swamp Edge

Clay pipe under older gardens

Sections laid before the 1990s still drain through vitrified clay, and big old trees around Callan Avenue and Boundary Road have roots hunting for any joint that has opened. A choke there keeps returning until the joint is sealed.

Braided hoses past their best

The flexible connectors beneath the vanities and sinks of the 1980s to 2000s houses are ageing out, and when one splits it pushes out mains water non-stop until the stop tap is turned off.

Water heading west

The ground drops through ridges and gullies toward Hexham Swamp, so the low blocks near that edge collect runoff from the higher streets whenever heavy Hunter rain sets in.

Suburbs We Cover Around Maryland

Each neighbour below has its own page: Hexham, Fletcher, Shortland and Wallsend. Minmi, Elermore Vale and Birmingham Gardens are looked after on the same number.

Straight Answers Before You Ring

Do you cover Maryland after hours and on weekends?

Yes. Available 24/7 includes Sundays and public holidays, so ring (02) 4063 1093 whenever a fault will not keep until morning. A licensed plumber or gas fitter picks up, and any after-hours charge is named on that call before a van is sent your way.

What does it cost to have a plumber come out?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). Calls after hours carry a call-out rate, stated while you are still on the line. The repair is then quoted as a single fixed figure for you to accept or decline.

Our drain has blocked twice this year. Is it tree roots?

Quite possibly. Clay drains laid before the 1990s open at the joints as the reactive ground moves, and roots from mature gardens find those gaps. We film the line once it runs clear, and the footage shows whether a root mat, a sag or a broken collar is behind the repeat choke.

Can you supply hot water while a replacement is being sorted?

Yes. If the replacement system is not on the shelf, a temporary hot water tank goes in to cover the wait. First comes the diagnosis, which weighs a repair against a new unit, and you see both prices before anything is disconnected.

Do you do gas work as well as water pipes?

Yes. Our licensed gas fitters connect pool heaters, BBQs, ovens and cooktops, run new gas lines, and find and fix gas leaks. Because the same team handles the water side, a kitchen job that needs both a gas point and a new tap can run as one booking.

Do you handle rental and strata properties?

Yes. We ring the tenant to set a time, confirm it by message and send a heads-up before arriving; photos and a detailed invoice then go to the landlord or agent. Strata-titled townhouses get the same routine.
